The Automated People Mover (APM) Users Group ia a
networking organization whose primary purpose is to share information
with other "owners- users" of APM systems. This information consists of
system operating and replacement costs, common issues, safety
programs/data, best practices, lessons learned, and such.
Owners and operators of Automated People Movers (APMs)
of all sizes and technologies face similar challenges and
responsibilities in the planning, acquisition, operation, maintenance,
and replacement/refurbishment of their systems. Because APM systems are not
typically the primary
business focus of the entities that own and operate them,
there may be a lack of familiarity of these systems among management.
Given the importance of APM systems to successful operations and passenger movement, it is desirable for APM
owners and operators to share
their experience and technical knowledge.
This "APM Users' Group" is formed from
managers/supervisors, and authorities that own and operate APM systems and have committed to
forming a professional organization. The mission of this organization is
to create a network of partnerships that promote professional development and ethical
standards which address common aims and objectives of APM system
owner-operators. We have identified three key areas to accomplish this
mission: Technology, Organization, and Quality of Service.
In the area of
technology, we intend to innovate, promote, and develop cost effective
technical solutions for the organization and its members. We intend to
establish an organization, which will promote a high level of member
initiative and involvement through efficient networking. In the area of
quality of service, we will establish guidelines for APM system operation
that will provide benchmarks in the cost-effective delivery of service
while remaining responsive to the changing needs of our customers.
Any entity (city, airport, resort,
etc.) that owns and operates an APM is
eligible for membership in this
organization. An entity joining the organization may designate up to
three (3) people to represent it. For the present,
dues are not required. APM manufacturers, suppliers, consultants, and
general-interest are not permitted to participate this group.
Membership into this organization is predicated upon providing as well as
receiving information. Each Member must complete a datasheet (site survey)
for the system they own/operate.
Members that do not complete surveys,
update their survey as their systems change, or provide/share requested information would
not be considered members in good standing and therefore would not
eligible to receive information or participate in matters related to this organization.
